Toko’s Baltic Amber is fossilized tree resin that oozed its way out of a forest of conifers between 23 and 50 million years ago. It can contain moss, pine needles, lichen or even insects, and each piece is unique.
An ancient theory has it that the golden rays of the setting sun were captured by the sea, and then cast ashore in the form of amber. Chunks of amber can still be collected by the Baltic Sea and along the shores of East Anglia after it has washed across the North Sea.
While the sunset gold colour is the most usual, other colours were formed to include green, cherry red, milky-white and even black amber.
These earrings feature a large curved green amber stone set in a smooth polished oval of sterling silver. The stone is suspended below a small oval disc of silver, and on the back of this there is a post and butterfly stud fastening.
